A BRIGHT BEDROOM FOR SWEETER DREAMS

Updating the interiors of your home is a bit like eating chocolate; it’s amazingly satisfying and it can be hard to stop. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. We’re here to encourage your decorating addictions. So let’s indulge away!

Arlington Home Interiors was more than happy when a previous client invited us back to their Craftsman bungalow in the Old Dominion neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia to help them reimagine their master bedroom. Typically when clients refresh their homes in a phased approach, the public spaces are first on their list. I think we should flip that notion. Your bedroom is the one space you are guaranteed to use every single day, which means it can bring you joy every day (and night). Time to move it up on your priority list!

For our clients’ bedroom makeover, we wanted to create a bright, inviting and cheerful space. We used a soothing palette of neutrals, corals and blues combined with organic and geometric patterns.

The layered textures, colors, patterns and furnishings give the space a collected look that encouraged lounging. Colorful drapery panels soften the hard edges of the plantation shutters and help the room feel less boxy and more custom. We layered a handmade rug over the wall-to-wall carpeting for more interest.

Instead of going with a traditional chair/ottoman combo, we opted for this stunning coral chaise to create a relaxing reading corner. It’s a dramatic but livable piece–stylish for the grown-ups, yet sturdy for the kids.

Why go with boring brown when you can have a blueberry dresser? This colorful hand-crafted dresser creates a nice balance with the neutrals in the room.

Enveloping the room in grasscloth wallpaper creates a warm, nuanced texture and also a contrasting complement to the plush blue velvet headboard.

Leaving no surface untouched, we painted the ceiling a calming blue to connect it to the rest of room. Our clients can now start and end each and every day with a beautiful space that brings them joy!
