WORK FROM HOME IN STYLE

Working from home, whether it’s full-time or just a couple days a week, is now a reality in our professional lives. So much so that there’s even the acronym “WFH” to add to our collective vocabulary. And now that WFH is here to stay, creating a supportive work environment in your home is worth considering.

Over the last few years, I have seen every imaginable WFH scenario, from working at the kitchen counter, to taking over the dining room table, to using a child's desk in the primary bedroom. None of these makeshift options support productivity or inspire creativity. Just imagine a dedicated space that allows you to actually focus on work. One that’s functional, enjoyable, sophisticated and reflects the design and comfort of the rest of your home.

We recently installed a stunning home office that checked all the boxes. Our goal for this project was to create a space that supported our client's seniority and his leadership role. A motivating environment that energized him so he wouldn't miss a beat on those WFH days. Plus, his video calls now have a stunning background!

Every element in this office was carefully curated to deliver a calm, composed setting for success.

1. POWER DESK: Your laptop shouldn’t be on your lap these days. It needs to be front and center on a real desk with additional space so you can spread out and get to work. We selected this handsome desk with corduroy textured drawer fronts, acrylic bar pulls and a brushed nickel base.

2. YOUR COMFORT MATTERS: Uncomfortable seating seems to be the #1 complaint we hear about in home workspaces. Do your back a favor and get a real office chair. Don’t try sitting for hours at a time on a stool or a dining room chair. For this space, we selected a Herman Miller (@hermanmiller) Eames executive black leather office chair with a tall back.

3. LIGHTING FOR PRODUCTIVITY: The right lighting can help your mood and increase your productivity. The more natural light, the better, so face the window if you can but you’ll need some task lighting for burning the midnight oil. And we love a decorative fixture to complete the look, like this stunning brass and black fixture with a modern edge. For the desk, we chose a mixed metal desk lamp with geometric flair.

4. DREAM PIECE: Our homeowner had always dreamed of a leather Chesterfield sofa in his office. We were so happy to deliver! We selected a cognac leather sofa with a brass nail head finish. We love the detailed tufting and high track arm–traditional, yet modern.

5. DRAMATIC ARTWORK: A large piece of art placed behind your desk makes for an impressive Zoom backdrop. We chose an oversized abstract piece from local artist Allen Levy (@allenlevystudios) as the ultimate power background for video calls and as a focal point for this beautiful built-in wall of storage and display.

It’s time to increase your WFH productivity with a stylish home office that motivates and inspires you! Let’s work together to create a personal space that complements your home and celebrates your professional achievements.
