GOODBYE GLOOM, HELLO GLAM

Over the last few crazy years, all of us had to make adjustments to our living spaces. Our homes suddenly needed to serve as an office, a school, a gym and a thousand other things. The problem is once these “temporary” accommodations are made, it’s easy to get used to them. After that, you forget the space’s original purpose and that it can and should be better. This is a story about making it better.

One day our client looked up from the dual computer monitors on her cluttered dining room table and realized she had had enough. It was time to reach out to Manlove and Company Interiors to start undoing these makeshift spaces! No more computers in the dining room!

Our client’s dining room is the first space you see when you enter their home. It needed to be brighter and more welcoming instead of the current “hodgepodge” it had become. Our client was ready for a sophisticated eye-catching space for family gatherings. So out with the gloom and in with the glam!

We love, love, love how this space turned out. Here’s a “by the numbers” breakdown of how we transformed this dark and cluttered space into a luxurious and sophisticated dining room.

1. CEILING: We wanted the impact to start from the top and work its magic all the way down. We treated the ceiling with painted gold cork wallpaper that gave the surface both texture and a beautiful reflective sheen.

2. CHANDELIER: The oil-rubbed bronze and glass chandelier sets the stage for drama and adds an element of glitz. The fixture is long, like the table, for even lighting in the room. We love this statement lighting moment and how it’s one of the first things you see when you enter their home.

3. WINDOW TREATMENTS: We softened our client’s existing plantation shutters with fabric drapery panels in a soft grey blue. In addition to bringing the eye up to the beautiful ceiling and light fixture, the panels soften the transition between the hard millwork and the soft wallpaper. The blue in the panels also bring out the blue in the handmade rug.

4. TABLE: This striking solid maple dining table is finished in a soft off-white paint, to lighten the mood in this entry room, and can be dressed up or down, depending on how you want to style it. With the extension leaves, this table will host up to ten lucky guests!

5. CHAIRS: We intentionally kept the chairs light for more reflection in the room. Backed with a contrasting light pink, this room glows in daylight, and candlelight. And the brass nail heads complements the other metal finishes in the room for a cohesive look.

6. RUG: The oversized, Pakistanian wool rug is hand-knotted and vegetable dyed. It fills the room with soft beauty with its multi-color palette and intricate patterning.

It’s time to undo those makeshift spaces and RECLAIM your home! Let’s work together to take the gloom out of your space and add some well-deserved glam!
